Position: Sports Exchange Advisors (SEA), Specialising in Football

The SEA position is currently available for the 2020 UK JET Programme. SEAs work for local governments, coaching and promoting internationalisation through the universal language of sports. SEAs are sports professionals whose role is to assist with sports training and the planning of sports related projects. Details regarding the position can also be found in the 2020 UK JET SEA Application Guidelines.

Participants will engage in internationalisation activities through certain designated sports, such as football for 2020. SEAs are placed in the relevant departments or facilities provided by Contracting Organisations where they engage in their duties.

SEA duties are carried out by the participant, as specified by their respective supervisor at individual Contracting Organisations. The following is a general outline of duties, though they may vary from one Contracting Organisation to another.

Please download and complete the Application Form (typed or handwritten) available on the bottom of this page. Once completed, Applicants must submit their application pack to the UK JET Office at the Embassy of Japan in London by the deadline at 6pm on Friday, 28th February 2020. Early submission is strongly encouraged and any documents submitted after the deadline will be automatically rejected. The submitted documents will not be returned.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

The Personal Statement will be used to assess your suitability and motivation for applying for the UK JET Programme. You must ensure that it is between 800 and 1000 words, printed on A4 paper, font size 12 and double-spaced. The Personal Statement should be in an essay format, and answer the following questions:

  1. Why do you wish to participate on the UK JET Programme and what can you contribute to your host community?
  2. If you have any experience of living abroad for an extended period, what aspect did you find the most difficult to adapt to? Was there any specific problem you had to overcome?
    OR
    If you have not had any experience of living abroad, do you consider yourself to be adaptable to new circumstances and people? What situations have you found yourself in that have required such adaptation?
  3. How would you be able to apply your coaching experience to school club activities in Japan?

REFERENCES

Applicants must provide two letters of reference in support of their application. These letters should be written specifically to the JET Programme Office, addressing your suitability to take part on the programme. Any information regarding your character, personal interests, extra-curricular activities, academic ability or work ethic is particularly welcome. One of the referees should be written by the UK’s National Olympic Committee (NOC), a government organisation or sports association etc. It is your responsibility to choose the appropriate references for your application, but these referees should be people that have known you in a professional or academic environment. References from close friends or relatives will not be accepted.

Submission

Your references should be enclosed within your application pack and not sent separately. Please do not open your references. If you submit more than two reference letters, two will be chosen at the random. Any extras will be discarded without being read.

Certification and Proof of Degree (if Applicable)

For those who have already graduated: a Certification of Graduation of a vocational college etc. or coaching certification/qualification of one’s specialised sports field. Authenticated photocopy is also acceptable (stamped and signed) by a person with authority in your institution, such as a member of student services or a personal tutor.

For Final Year Students: Please send an original letter indicating the university and course on which you are currently enrolled. It must be the original and printed on university-headed paper. It must also be signed and stamped (with an official university ink stamp) by a person with authority to give such information (such as a departmental secretary, registrar, or personal tutor). This letter must also state the dates you are expected to complete your degree, in order to confirm you will have completed your degree before departure.

The wording of this letter should be as follows:

11. Self-addressed stamped postcard (a postcard with a correct stamp and your own address written on it.
This will be mailed back to you as a confirmation of receipt upon receiving your application pack)
